York Bellringing Society
York Bellringing society (YCG) is a welcoming society for bellringers from the University of York and York St John University. If you have rung before or have never touched a bell rope, we invite you to come to our weekly practices on a Wednesday evening followed by a trip to the pub. During these practices, we ring call changes, methods and individual handling. Events throughout the year include: many quarter peals; socials such as quiz night or film night; the yearly trip to NUA; our yearly formal which includes an outing near York and a ceilidh; and often visiting other towers in York.
We are a friendly group who also ring at other practices across York. With many going to St Lawrence on a Monday, the Oratory of St Wilfred’s on a Thursday (for those who are progressing through stedman doubles and triples and into surprise minor, major or royal), and a couple of members ringing at St Martin’s (advanced only) and York Minster (advanced only, by arrangement with the minster ringers). There are also other practices in York, if you want to know more please send us an email. All ringing is within walking distance of both universities, with busses also running to most churches.
If you are wanting to get involved or find out more please email us at: bellringers@yorksu.org.
