Leicester Universities Society of Change Ringers

Practice: Wednesday 19:00-20:30

The Leicester Universities Society of Change Ringers (LUSCR) is a society for students, staff, and alumni of either of the universities in Leicester: University of Leicester and De Montfort University. The society has existed for many years, but had too few students to exist from 2004, until 2025 when it was restarted.

We are a friendly group who focusses on progressing our student ringers using the help of our large alumni base, and we hope to create a fun atmosphere that breeds friendships and long-lasting memories. We have many social events to facilitate this, like trips to the pub after practice to celebrate and meals out with the members. We attended the NUA this year too, something we hope to keep up for many years to come.

We have ART 1 accredited teachers available to teach anyone who wants to give ringing a go, so please do reach out if you are interested in learning to ring! If you decide you want to carry on then you will be most welcome to keep learning with us, and if not then you’ve had a go at something unique.

St Mary De Castro has 10 enjoyable bells and is easy to get to as it is very central in Leicester. We meet at the church usually and you can often get lifts back home afterwards if needed. The church lies roughly on the route of the Hospital Hopper bus, or you can cycle and lock a bike there.

There is plenty of ringing in Leicester to join in on as well, like the Cathedral or Oadby St Peter’s on a Tuesday night, St Mary de Castro’s own practice on a Thursday, and special 10 and 12 bell practices run on most Saturdays.

We hope to see you soon!
