Exeter Colleges Guild

The ECG welcomes everyone of any experience that wants to ring bells – from people that have never set foot in a tower, to those that have been ringing for a decade or more. Our regular practices range from basic handling sessions to Stedman Triples and Surprise Major, with some Devon-style call changes, and everything in-between.

As we have not been so fortunate to convince the university to install a ring of bells for us on campus, we’ve found a home in one of the local towers. St. David’s has nurtured us for an innumerable number of years, which has proved to be a success. The locals (many of whom are past Exeter graduates) run an excellent practice, that we hijack during term time. It means we are able to ring much more and to a higher standard than if we were left to fend for ourselves. If you’d like to come to a practice, send us an email to ecgbellringing@groups.exeterguild.com or message on Instagram (@ecgringing) so that we know to expect you (otherwise you won’t be able to get in!).

St David’s is just a 10 minute walk from Streatham Campus, and 20 minutes from St Luke’s, and the 4 and 4A busses stop just outside the church.

We join the ECG alumni in their events, including the Annual Dinner and Outing in early February, as well as Devonshire Guild events like the monthly open practices at the cathedral, and the train outing in the summer. There are numerous opportunities to get involved in city ringing, with everything from practices to quarter peals to striking competitions. We also enjoy ringing with other university societies – we have traditionally strong ties with Bristol, and attend SUA (the Southern Universities Association) weekend in November each year.
