NUA 1974 - Sheffield
RW 3320 13/12/1974 (SUA on p 1023) p1033 Northern Universities’ Assoc. A BAD START The autumn meeting held in the Sheffield area was attended by ringers from Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham , Bradford. Hull and Leeds Universities. For Sheffield the day did not start very happily as the hired mini-bus failed to materialise until one hour after the time arranged, and some members had to use private cars. We learned that in Rotherham the mini-bus received a ticket for failing to display an excise licence! The day went well with ringing at Barnby Dun, followed by the beautiful heavy eight in Doncaster. The spacious ringing cham ber easily accommodated our numbers! Adwick-le-Street was followed by an adjournment for lunch after ringing at Conisborough, and thereafter the route continued via Thrybergh and Treeton , to the two towers in Rotherham . After ringing at St. Stephen’s we negotiated the hazardous climb to the tower of All Saints’, the parish church. We rang for nearly 11 hours and then replaced the muffles for the following day. After a meal all assembled in the University halls of residence and the social gathering continued until the small hours. A. C. B.
