Practice Night: Wednesdays, 7.30 – 9pm
Service Ringing: Sundays, 8.45 – 9.30am
We ring at St David, Exeter (8 bells, 11-2-23) which is a ten minute walk from the main campus! The practice runs from 7.30 – 9pm… which gives hours of time in a drinking pit.
(The part that no-one ever likes.) We also have to get up to ring on Sunday mornings. Early. In fact, I wouldn’t be lying if I said VERY early indeed. For some reason, the church decided that people just weren’t getting up early enough, so moved the service forward half an hour – now we have to ring at 8.45 – 9.30am. Ouch!
We usually ring a variety of things, from teaching people how to ring, through call changes, to such hedonistic delights as plain bob, grandsire (ugghhh) or even surprise (with a big shove).
As is the nature of ringing, we have contacts across the known world, in Exeter and even beyond. We have traditionally strong links with Bristol, being our neighbouring university with an active ringing society; we see them at least once a term.
We welcome ringers from any of the colleges or schools within Exeter and the surrounds, so come and make yourselves known to us. Anyone is most welcome to join our practices, not just university and college members.
